Young Potters: Wheel Throwing Workshop
Give your kids a hands-on, creative adventure they will never forget! This 1.5-hour workshop is designed specifically for children to experience the magic of the potter's wheel. It is high-energy, wonderfully messy, and completely beginner-friendly. Every child will get to experience the thrill of the wheel twice to create their very own masterpieces.
Price: £45 per child
Group Size: Up to 7 participants
Duration: 1.5 hours
Location: Manor Farm Pottery
What the Session Looks Like
We keep things moving quickly to match children's energy levels, ensuring they stay engaged, supported, and creative from start to finish.
00:00 – 00:15 | Welcome & Wheel Demo: We start with a quick, fun demonstration. The children will see how a lump of spinning mud magically transforms into a bowl, and we'll run through the basic rules of the wheel.
00:15 – 01:00 | 2 Go's on the Wheel: Every child gets behind their own potter's wheel. They will get two separate attempts to spin and shape the clay with close, step-by-step guidance from our expert instructor.
01:00 – 01:30 | Colour Decoration & Photos: Time to get colorful! Using vibrant, kid-friendly coloured slips, the children will paint and decorate their fresh pots. We finish with a quick wash-up and a proud group photo of their creations.
What is Included in the £45 Fee
Two Throwing Attempts: Plenty of clay to ensure they get two distinct chances to succeed on the wheel.
All Materials: Premium stoneware clay, bright decorating slips, and child-safe pottery tools.
Dedicated Coaching: Patient, encouraging guidance tailored specifically to children's learning paces.
Full Studio Firing Service: We do all the heavy lifting afterward. We dry, bisque-fire, glaze, and final-fire their pots so they are fully functional, shiny, dishwasher-safe, and ready to use at home.
Practical Information for Parents
What to Wear: Wheel throwing is beautifully messy! Please send children in old clothes and closed-toe shoes that you don't mind getting splattered with clay. Long hair should be tied back, and long fingernails can make throwing tricky.
Age Recommendation: Ideal for ages 7 and up (to ensure they can comfortably reach the wheel controls and manage the clay).
Collection: Masterpieces will be fired and ready to pick up from Manor Farm Pottery within 3–4 weeks.
